Musharraf's regime is one of the graetest regimes of 21st century not because it is controversial but because it's tenure was having almost ten years in history with absolute rule may be tyrannical but I am not believe in that meaning of tyrranical, omnipotent and autocratic rule. It's not absolute or tyrranical in a sense to create awe and terror in the hearts of people but more towards the betterment of society and to mobilize the government machinery to work for the wekfare of the people and society. This is quite unacceptable view but I know that it's absolutely true. Musharraf's rule is one of the golden era for Pakistan in terms of developmet and progress. I am not just simply write it down with my own ideas or thoughts but justify it through concrete and solid argument and prove that how Musharraf's era is golden era for Pakistan. I think Pakistani's are much emotional and its very easy for someone to take advantage from their emotional attitude. I am not blaming Pakistani's but its a fact and you never negate facts. First, you have to change your mind set. I am not saying that everything was going well in musharraf's rule but its not my education and training to criticise every single action and policy for personal interests and gains. I am not hungry for getting sympathy or acceptance in society but I just want to change the mind set of people.
Musharraf reign starts from 12th October, 1999 and afterwards every single political party had supporting the musharraf's action to overthrown political government. Why they support a dictator for overthrowing a political government? Anyhow, what they did I am not having any interest to talk about their misdeeds but I have to analyse the good governance aspects of Musharraf's regime.
In 1999, there is only one leading cellular company in Pakistan and that is "Mobilink". In 1999, it's not possible to even think about mobile and even not telephones at home. They were considered to be quite expensive and rare. The price of mobile set at that time ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 rupees. After 1999, there was a boom in telecommunication sector and mobile is like a machine in the hands of everyone. It's role may be controversial because there are two school of thought's. One advocates that telecommunication field could play a vital role in making people intact and responsible and it is a scale for measuring the poverty position. They think that people having mobile sets in their hand and this thing prove that their is an improvement in the lives of the people. Other school of thought pleads for this is quite wrong interpretation that development in telecommunication field is the criteria of improvement in the life of people. While what people could say but this is a fact that there was a huge scale of development in telecommunication field and I think no one negate this fact.
Now move on towards economical sector, In 1999 foreign reserves were declining with huge pace and fiscal deficit was showing an alarming situation for country. It's true that there was no money in StateBank to buy the petrol for the next month. In 2008, the situation was quite different and Pakistan's foreign reserves were on 18 million which was historical calculations for reserves. The economy was running with absolutely great pace but those people who criticise the economy of Pakistan were not even do something when they were sitting in the "Ministry of Finance". The thing is they only can criticise the policies but not have any ability to do something in practical. So, we can say those people can only do "criticism by criticism" but not "criticism by giving some suggestions".
Now we talk about something in education sector, there was alot of projects still going on which are initiated by musharraf's regime. In punjab there were number of project which include not only promoting government sector but also supporting the private sector to play its role in education field. COMSATS, GIFT, PUNJAB COLLEGES, APTECH, are few of examples. Other policies includes to establish new campuses Punjab Universiy(Gujranwala Campus & Muree Campus), Allama Iqbal University virtual campuses and providing computer equipments to all the colleges and schools were the policies of Musharraf's regime.
The most important and appreciatablte work of Musharraf's regime was to do something for media by giving licenses to news channels including: Geo, ARY, Aaj, Express, Khayber, and much more. There were almost hundred's of licences given to channels to work independently and provide quality entertainment to people at home. By giving independence to media he proved to be a true democrat and no more dictator at all. This is the point on which you may agree or disagree but ultimately if you had read all above I think there is something inside you which make you to think about again and may be you accept my point of view that Musharraf's regime is not a rulership of dictator but better than this so called democracy.
